New Piercing Aftercare: How to Heal Cleanly

A new piercing heals best when you keep it simple and consistent. Here’s the routine we give every client at Ink Rising in North Miami.

Clean Twice a Day

Use a sterile saline spray or a mix of non-iodized sea salt and warm water. Gently rinse the piercing morning and night. Avoid alcohol, hydrogen peroxide, and harsh soaps — they irritate healing tissue.

Hands Off

Only touch your piercing with clean hands, and never twist or rotate the jewelry. Let crust soften with saline and wipe it away gently instead of picking.

Protect It While It Heals

Keep makeup, lotions, and hair products away from the site. Change pillowcases often for ear and facial piercings, and avoid pools, hot tubs, and natural bodies of water until healed.

Healing Timelines

Earlobes take about 6–8 weeks, while cartilage, navel, and other piercings can take several months. Don’t change jewelry too early — wait until fully healed.
